About Spiritual Direction
Spiritual Direction is for anyone who desires to draw closer to God.
Our hope is that as we spend time with God you will:
Grow in awareness of God’s love and presence in your life
Discern how God is moving in your life and respond to Him
Walk in your true identity as His Beloved
How is Spiritual Direction Different From Therapy or Pastoral Counseling?
Spiritual direction is often compared to therapy or pastoral counseling, but it has a different focus and posture. Unlike therapy, it is not centered on diagnosing problems or working through treatment plans. You do not need to come with something “wrong” or "fixed" to be here. And unlike pastoral counseling or discipleship settings, it is not primarily about gaining new information about God or learning more content about faith.
Instead, spiritual direction is more like making space to become aware of God in your actual life. It is a quiet, attentive practice of noticing how God is already present and active in the ordinary moments of your days. Rather than offering advice or instruction, the time is spent listening together for the Holy Spirit and becoming more aware of His movement, invitation, and presence in your story.
At its heart, it can be understood as a kind of “self-care for the soul”—a way of slowing down so you can be more present to God, and more open to what He is already doing in you.
Some people seek support from both a therapist and spiritual director at the same time. If you’re unsure what would be most helpful to you, contact us and we can discuss it together.
What May Sessions Look Like?
Each spiritual direction session may look different, because we want to cultivate a posture of attentiveness to God rather than following a set formula. I pray that each session is shaped by attention to the Holy Spirit and that we may simply respond to how He is moving in the moment.
Silence
We often begin with silence, learning to simply be with God rather than perform or produce words. In this space, we practice noticing His presence and becoming aware of what is stirring within us.
Sharing
You are welcome to bring whatever is on your heart and mind, because God cares about every part of your life. This may include questions, decisions, doubts, desires, longings, or uncertainties as we bring your whole life before Him.
I may ask gentle questions or offer reflections to help you notice what is happening within and around you, and where God may be at work. The aim is not to provide answers, but to deepen awareness and curiosity about God’s movement in your life.

Art & Creativity
Prayer is an ongoing conversation with God, so it naturally shapes our time together as we listen and respond to Him. We may also use practices like Lectio Divina or the Prayer of Examen to help attune our hearts to His Word and His presence.
At times, we may use creative expression, because some experiences of God and the human heart go beyond words. Creativity becomes a way of listening to God and expressing what He is forming within us.
A final note on confidentiality
Everything shared in spiritual direction is held in strict confidence. The only exception to this would be if there is a concern about serious risk of harm to you or to someone else, in which case I would let you know and take the necessary steps to ensure safety.
In addition, I may occasionally seek guidance through professional supervision with another spiritual director or peer. This is a normal and ethical part of spiritual direction practice and helps ensure that I am offering you the best possible care. When this happens, your identity is always kept completely confidential and no identifying details are shared.
